This place sucked. Reservation for four, easy enough. Service was poor, we continually had to flag people down for everything. The cheese dip for the pretzels tasteless. The lamb-burger was terrible, more feta cheese than meat and the side of fries was somewhere between over cooked and raw. The manager (assumed) did stop by after we complained about the lamb-burger, offered no solution only an apology. Then we were charged a 20% tip "for our convenience." When I asked about the tip, they seemed baffled that I would have an issue with being told what an appropriate tip for poor service should be.

Call ahead for a reservation if you can. Many of the places here have a dress code but we came for dinner in our hiking clothes after a day at garden of the gods and it was totally fine! Get the yard beers... theyre an experience. Take a walk around after- beautiful views!

Three reasons for my low review:
    1. A 20% mandatory gratuity added to EVERY ticket as a "convenience".
I enjoy tipping like I also enjoy applauding after a live performance. I would not enjoy my exuberant applause being mandatory to being admitted to a live performance, just I did not enjoy a 20% gratuity being mandatory after this meal.
I find it insulting to think I am somehow "inconvenienced" by calculating and adding an appropriate tip. Like I said, I enjoy tipping so this logic would suggest I should also be grateful if somebody ate my dessert so I wouldn't have to worry about gaining weight.
I can't help but believe it is deceitful to place a line item for a tip inclusion on the signature slip after the credit card is run, as is the case here. I have to wonder how many patrons are engaged with their group and pay no attention to the charges (as I often do myself), and then leave another 20%, give or take, after the fact.
    2. The food was so-so, average at best.
My lady and I shared a Reuben sandwich, with celery and carrots sticks and some moderately warm potato wedges, along with two pints of Guinness for a little over $38. A generous rating on the sandwich would be average if it had been warmer.
    3. Ambiance wrecked midway through the meal.
My lady and I arrived, with week old reservations, at 4:00 on Saturday afternoon. We were seated just inside the restaurant in a fairly large room with about 15 - 20 tables, at a table for two that was about 2 feet wide and 3 feet deep. There were no other customers in the room at that time in the afternoon. It was peaceful and quiet, just perfect for our belated Valentine's meal together. Before our food arrived, the hostess seated another couple at the table next to ours. Their table was 2 feet away from us, and there are at least 6 other tables for two in the same room, and I am sure even more in other rooms throughout the restaurant. Now imagine this .... it is still a very quiet room, and a total stranger is sitting closer to me than the lady I want to have private conversation with, for no apparent reason!!! I got up and found our server, and asked about this situation. A manager came out and explained all the other (still empty) tables are reserved. Are you kidding me??? Like I should believe all the other tables in a 90 person occupancy establishment are reserved specifically and these two tables are the only two that were not reserved specifically? As I said before, we also had reservations for a week. She did offer to move us, but how embarrassing is it to pick up our food and move right after another couple was seated? I said no to the move, but she insisted (as if to think I would be happy to be insultuous?) until I simply said "It's too late". Fortunately the couple seated next to us were lovely and we enjoyed our conversations about the weather, and the Broncos; nice filler conversations and not what a typical Valentine's dinner conversation would be like. For the record, they also found the situation uncomfortable.
So, one might think I would not recommend the Golden Bee to others, but that is not the case! If one wishes to see a live, real life reality version of Hans Christian Anderson's "The Emperor's New Clothes", then this is a can't miss opportunity. In this performance, only the village idiot can not see how wonderful and fabulous this place truly is. Since I've been called an idiot before, and have even thought myself to be an idiot (like if I had not looked at the bill carefully this time), this was not at all a unique experience; just a very disappointing one.
